A Word from the Word

I have been thinking lately how good it is that as God’s children we are safe.

For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
— Psalm 4:8

It is not our circumstances, our security, or what others think of us that bring safety, but "God alone" who makes us safe. Proverbs puts it this way:

But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.
— Proverbs 1:33

Trusting God's way in our life is the safest place to be. Sometimes the many decisions in life can create fear, but God desires we commit our works to Him.

Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.
— Proverbs 16:3

As we "commit our works" to Him (16:3) and make our "plans" (16:9, 19:21), He "establishes our thoughts" — that is, He causes our thoughts to be agreeable with His will (16:3). He further "directs our steps" (16:9), and His "counsel" stands (19:21). It should encourage us to realize that as we commit our works and plans to God, He establishes and directs our paths to conform to His counsel or will. What safety we have as we allow Him to lead us!
